Almost showtime

Getting ready for an exhibition continued….

Its less than a week to go until my my Fireweed exhibition - my first solo exhibition - that is taking place at the SaltSpace Gallery in Glasgow, Scotland 12-14th April 2024. I’m excited.

I thought I’d share what the getting ready journey has been like so far. In my February blog I talked about the practicalities of getting organised in terms of finishing the paintings and starting the logistics and admin required to get ready for an exhibition. Last month I talked about how I was doing in terms of the balance between prepping for the show and everything else in my life. This month I’m going to talk about the last part of getting ready for the show which has included marketing and getting packed and ready to go.

I have been busy getting web pages, flyers and social media posts ready to promote and support the exhibition. I have prepared table top signs with QR codes that link to a page that describes more about the show - its the equivalent of an online brochure. All the paintings in the exhibition are for sale and will be available after the show so I spent some time getting my online shop pages ready to go immediately after the show is over. I have been busy posting on my social media a bit more than normal and have handed out printed flyers as well. I have had 3 of the paintings made into a set of greetings cards which will be available to buy at my exhibition. I use Canva for my graphic design needs which works really well. I used printed.com for getting the cards printed, and a local printer merchantcityprint for my flyers.

I’ve been busy packing up all the paintings ready to go. I pack them face to face and i use sponges at each corner then wrap them together with cling wrap. Then I wrap the paintings in corrugated card and reinforce the corners. I have hired a man with a van to deliver the large paintings to the gallery for me.

I have organised insurance via https://www.a-n.co.uk/ which will cover me for 1 year for public liability.

Finally I have gathered together tools and essential items for the event into an event box. So I’m nearly ready to go! Next month I’ll report back on how it all went.

What is your experience of organising your own art event? Id love to know.
